Process

Double Diamond Design Methodology

The Double Diamond methodology outlines four distinct phases of the design process: Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver

Discover

User research

45 responses to User Survey

7 User interviews

6 Expert interviews

Key Insights

Researchers using Twitter do not share a standardized workflow

Researchers find Twitter lists most helpful, but have trouble discerning which lists to follow

Some researchers have trouble finding who to follow

Most Twitter researchers primarily use web-app, but use mobile for casual research

Many people who have attempted to use Twitter for research have given up due to amount of time and effort required

Researchers find it helpful to see which follow connections  but must do this process manually

Define

Insights from the Discover phase helped us define the design challenge and target user

Design Challenge

Persona

Target user

  • High-level Twitter User

  • Uses Twitter for research

  • Interested in finding critical conversations in field

  • Interested in building social-professional network

Develop

Idea 1:
Network map of
Twitter List Members

Screen Shot 2020-12-30 at 1.05.40 PM.png

Interactive data visualization of Twitter List Members, illuminating the follow connections between members and users with the most followers and most popular Tweets.

Evaluation:

User feedback was overall positive about this idea

Issues we found via feedback and feasibility assessment

  • Doesn't help find the lists in the first place

  • To be most helpful the interactivity would need to be very high-level

  • Perhaps better as a second step after a simpler MVP

  • Too big to pilot unless focused on single group

Idea 2:
Platform of curated Twitter Lists for specific research purposes
Tweetscapepng.png

Collection of Twitter Lists specific to an area of research curated by experts

Evaluation:

User feedback was again positive

  • Good as MVP

  • Allows for user adoption and further research as developing further aspects of tools

  • Should be curated by users in addition via voting process

1. Create a Brand Story

        "Spy Car"

  • Sleek tool

  • Gives users an edge above the masses

  • Highly-developed and professional

Designed the UI for Tweetscape using Adobe XD.

Evaluation

  • Increase spacing on lists

  • Include better search/filter functionality

  • Allow for Tweeting in-app

  • Allow for list curation by users

Outcome

This project was taken over by Roote, a collective that uses Systems and Complexity theory to transition the "information age" to the "wisdom age". Roote is focusing on realizing the vision of a network map of list members.
